“What inspires me to be a teacher…”

To summarize my desire to teach, I cannot ignore one specific conversation I had while a freshman at Prescott College. My first year at Prescott College I dabbled in the field of Social Justice, which I enjoyed, but was unsatisfied with the courses ability to provide direct impact of change to the world. Partially coincidental, partially fate — perhaps — I found myself talking to a mutual friend at a BBQ who had recently graduated with a teaching degree from Prescott College. I told him of my interest in the Social Justice classes and expressed my desire to make more immediate change. His response changed my world; “If you want to make a change in the world, start with the kids, become a teacher.” The next semester I enrolled in all education classes. Why do I teach? I teach to change the world.
